In Search of Baba
Baba
(Father, in Farsi) is the first truly serious and literate look
at the cross-cultural drama told in personal terms. Baba is a love story,
adventure, and tragedy in the tradition of Doctor Zhivago with
comparisons to the struggles of Gandhi. It’s based on the story of an
American woman who’s manipulated and lied to by her boyfriend, a member
of the anti-Shah underground movement, to travel to Iran to look for her
father. While searching for her father, she gets caught in the turmoil
of the revolution. She challenges the government, the anti-government
movement and risks her life to gain the love of her life and the love
of her lost father. At the end she finds him, but is the one who leads
the government to her father. He exchanges his life for her safe return
without her knowledge.
